This archive contains the Great Basin Water Network's (GBWN) history opposing the now defunct Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Ground Water Development project. The project entailed construction of a 300-mile, 84" diameter pipeline to drain "unappropriated" water from east central Nevada and the west desert of Utah. The water was intended to serve Las Vegas — a major metro area of more than two million residents in southern Nevada. The cost of the pipeline and associated facilities was projected at more than $15 billion. It was initiated in 1989 and ended in 2020.
